Everton: Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend rage over ‘diabolical’ Jordan Pickford on talkSPORT
Everton number one Jordan Pickford committed a “diabolical” error for England in their friendly match against Belgium.
That is according to talkSPORT pundit Andy Townsend, with Ally McCoist labelling the mistake as “madness.”
The goalkeeper gave away the opening goal on Tuesday (26 March) by giving the ball away with a careless pass into the middle of the pitch, with Youri Tielemans finding the back of the net immediately after.
“It was a diabolical error from Jordan Pickford,” Townsend said on talkSPORT. “That is a ball that is never on, never has been, never will be, I don’t care in what era you’re knocking it about the back.
“That ball he’s tried, from the position he was in, it’s ridiculous,” with McCoist interjecting “Madness,” as Townsend concluded: “That’s very, very careless.”

Pickford has been a very reliable customer for both the Toffees and the Three Lions for many years now, but he will be disappointed by the manner in which he gave away the opening goal at Wembley.
The shot-stopper lost possession cheaply to his Goodison Park teammate Amadou Onana, with the ball quickly finding the back of the net after the midfielder found compatriot Tielemans.
The latter didn’t end his scoring there, putting a header past Pickford to secure a brace in the 2-2 draw, with Ivan Toney and Jude Bellingham on target for the hosts.
It was certainly a good test for Gareth Southgate and his players, who would have been keen to recover from their 1-0 friendly defeat to Brazil.
Pickford meanwhile will be desperate to make amends and impress for the Toffees when they return to action, with a trip to Bournemouth up next on Saturday (30 March).
