Everton: Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend slam Nathan Patterson after ‘poor’ Scotland incident
Everton defender Nathan Patterson has been slammed by Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend on talkSPORT.
It comes after the right-back gave away the only goal of the match as Scotland lost 1-0 to Northern Ireland.
Patterson lost possession inside his own box before Conor Bradley fired home at Hampden Park on Tuesday (26 March).
“When I say it was a poor goal to lose, it was a brilliant finish from Conor Bradley,” McCoist said on talkSPORT. “I think Nathan Patterson tries to flick one around the corner into an area he probably shouldn’t.”
Townsend interjected: “In his own box,” with McCoist adding: “Yeah in his own box, intercepted and brilliantly finished.”

Scotland were well up for the international clash with neighbours Northern Ireland, having suffered a disappointing 4-0 loss to the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Friday (22 March).
Manager Steve Clarke opted to start Toffees right-back Patterson at Hampden, with the defender having also started against the Netherlands.
But much to the disappointment of his boss, the full-back played his way into serious trouble just after the half-hour mark.
The Northern Ireland players quickly surrounded him, with Liverpool star Bradley picking up the ball before firing it into the top corner.
That was where the scoring ended at the national stadium, with Clarke now needing to regain some momentum ahead of Euro 2024.
Patterson will now return to Goodison Park, where he will be keen to help out Sean Dyche in the club’s fight for Premier League survival.
After a lengthy break from action due to the FA Cup and the latest round of international matches, the Toffees return to the pitch with a trip to Bournemouth on Saturday (30 March).
