Everton: Nathan Patterson raises serious doubts over Goodison Park future
Nathan Patterson’s recent performance for Scotland raises serious questions over his future at Everton this summer.
Sean Dyche is aware that there need to be sales in order to sign new players and the 22-year-old may be shown the door at Goodison Park.
On 26 March, Scotland lost 1-0 to Northern Ireland and it was Patterson’s howler that shaped the outcome of the game.
Patterson struggling for Everton and Scotland
Apart from the error, he struggled with his crosses as well, failing to complete even one out of his four attempts. [Sofascore]
His accuracy was zero per cent and for a side that relies on wing play and floating the ball into the box, Patterson does not seem to be an ideal fit.
He even completed less than 80 per cent of his passes and his accuracy with long balls was just 33 per cent.
In the Premier League, his accuracy is even worse with him achieving success with just 73.6 of his passes. [WhoScored]
Aerially, he’s struggled significantly and is only performing better than 32 per cent of the full-backs in Europe’s top five leagues.
His numbers with regards to progressive passes, carries and successful take-ons highlight just how far away he is in terms of a top Premier League full-back and if the Toffees are to progress, he is not the one to help achieve that.
Will Sean Dyche ask Everton to sell Patterson in the summer transfer window?
Despite his contract running until 2027, Patterson has struggled to make a significant impact at Goodison Park, finding himself behind players like Ben Godfrey, Ashley Young and possibly Seamus Coleman in the pecking order.
His limited playing time. with just nine league starts and a lack of consistent performances may not justify keeping him at the club, especially if Dyche is looking to bolster other areas of the squad.
Additionally, with Everton facing financial constraints or seeking to generate funds for new signings, selling Patterson could be a viable option.
Given his age and potential, the Scotland international could still command a decent transfer fee, providing the Toffees with resources to reinvest in areas where they need strengthening.
He even had issues impressing when Frank Lampard was in charge.

Ultimately, Dyche may prioritise squad depth and quality over sentimentality, leading to the decision to sanction Patterson’s departure in the summer transfer window.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have already made contact to sign two players in the summer transfer window.
