Everton: ‘Lightning’ Coby Ebere surely catching Sean Dyche eye after what he did this week
Everton sensation Coby Ebere has surely caught the attention of first-team manager Sean Dyche after what he’s done.
The Everton Academy page on Twitter revealed on Tuesday (26 March) that the 18-year-old recorded a “lightning” time of 3.62 seconds in a 30-meter sprint during testing.
But the Toffees academy product is by no means just a speed merchant, having scored an impressive 11 goals in nine U-18 Premier League matches this season.
That form saw the German-born forward promoted to the U-21s team on 15 March, where he came off the bench in the 2-0 defeat against Wolves.
In an interview on the Everton website on Tuesday, he talked about his experience in the U-21s side and laid out his goal for making his senior debut further down the line.
“It’s a different intensity, but a good experience, seeing how it all works,” said Ebere. “I think it’s more of a technical difference because physically, I can deal with it. It’s technical – you have to make sure everything is done to a better standard.
“Getting top goalscorer with the U-18s is in sight and I’d definitely like to get more minutes with the U-21s, and take that goalscoring form into the 21s, as well.
“I’m just taking it day by day for now, but my end goal is to hopefully make my senior debut at Everton.”
If Ebere continues on his current trajectory, then his first-team debut may not be too far away as Dyche isn’t afraid to hand youngsters an opportunity to impress.

The Toffees are looking to transform the way they bring young players to the club to create a better pathway for exciting talents to progress from their academy.
That has been emphasised by the appointment of James Vaughan on 12 March as the new Head of Academy Recruitment and Player Pathways.
The 35-year-old will no doubt have the teenager earmarked as one of the players he’s looking to aid in his development.
It will be interesting to see whether Dyche hands Ebere the opportunity to train with the first team in the near future – something he’s done with other academy products – with a view to handing him his debut in due course.
The forward is certainly a player to keep an eye on.
