Everton: Premier League fate on cards as accounts released at Goodison Park

Everton are set to learn their fate from their second Premier League charge hearing before Monday 8 April, according to The Independent.

The newspaper has reported the news after the Merseyside club’s latest accounts from the 2022-23 period were made public and did not make for pretty reading.

The Toffees released their accounts on 31 March, with losses almost doubling from £44.7million the previous year to £89.1million in 2022-23.

Following the findings and announcement from their first financial hearing last autumn, the club were dealt a 10-point deduction, which turned to six on appeal.

Everton to learn Premier League hearing fate

A second points deduction has already been described as inevitable, with a season-long relegation battle showing no signs of slowing down at Goodison Park as the Premier League approaches its home straight.

Currently sat 16th in the table, above fellow financial breachers Nottingham Forest, the Toffees could be back in big relegation trouble in the coming days, particularly if the charge includes another hefty docking of points.

The reduction in their 10-point penalty lifts them three points above the drop zone, and with Burnley and Sheffield United having been rooted to the foot of the ladder for the vast majority of the season, there’s still hope that Everton can survive.

This week’s hearing outcome will prove crucial in that fight, and after Forest’s four-point charge on March 18, a similar punishment will push Everton back down the wrong side of that dreaded dotted line.

All eyes are on the Premier League and Goodison Park.
