Chris Sutton predicts result of Everton v Newcastle United, moots ‘Big Problem’
Chris Sutton has shared his prediction ahead of Newcastle United hosting Everton at St James’ Park on Tuesday night.
The Toffees crashed to a late defeat against Bournemouth last time after a “horror show” error, to leave them 12 games without a win, while Newcastle came from 3-1 down to beat West Ham 4-3 in their last outing.
But with the Magpies suffering from a major injury crisis right now, Sutton told BBC Sport’s website (1 April) that he can see Sean Dyche’s side picking up a shock win although he mooted a “big problem” they have right now.
“I was at St James’ Park to see Newcastle’s late comeback to beat West Ham 4-3 and there is a lot to admire about Eddie Howe’s side,” he said.
“They found a way of winning the game, and it was great for Harvey Barnes to come on and change the game the way he did after missing so much of the campaign.
“My concern for them here is how much that will have taken out of them. Their squad was already injury-ravaged and now their captain Jamaal Lascelles is out for several months too.
“I am taking a bit of a punt here, especially given that Everton have gone 12 league games without a win, but I think Newcastle are so stretched and put so much into it on Saturday, that it will catch up with them here.
“Everton’s big problem is still in attack because they really struggle to find the back of the net but they do create chances and I have a sneaking feeling they will get a result, just like they did when they beat the Magpies 3-0 at Goodison Park in December. Newcastle 1-2 Everton.”
Clinical finishing needed for Everton v Newcastle
Newcastle showed in their win over West Ham that they are more than capable of putting teams to the sword at St James’ Park, especially if they’re allowed to build up momentum.
That means Everton have to be flawless defensively, but if they want to win the game that means they have to put the ball in the back of the net too.
This is a team that doesn’t create enough chances considering the quality of the squad, and that simply has to change if the team want to avoid relegation to the Championship.

Beto is in good form right now with two goals in his last three outings, while his partnership with Dominic Calvert-Lewin on Saturday showed some signs of promise for the brief period they were on the pitch together.
With some attacking intent, clinical finishing and cutting the individual errors out defensively then this game is right there for them to win.
