Everton: Ex-Premier League director sends Farhad Moshiri message amid PSR verdict

Luke Dowling has claimed he feels bad for Farhad Moshiri amid the financial situation at Everton as the profit and sustainability breaches may not be his fault.

Dowling, who worked as a technical director for West Brom in the Premier League, insisted it was those around Moshiri who should have done more to advise him.

He did clarify that the owner may have approved the deals despite warnings from his staff but insisted that Moshiri is not the one who signs the paperwork.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [12:57], Dowling shared: “I feel a little bit for the owner at Everton, and Everton fans listening might not agree with this, but when an owner isn’t present day in, day out, he’s got representatives that might be advising him.

“Ultimately, the owner doesn’t sign on the dotted line. Football clubs have CEOs and Financial Directors who know where they are on FFP.

“Don’t get me wrong, the people at Everton might have been saying they can’t do it and Moshiri says ‘tough’, but ultimately I think owners come in for unfair stick because ultimately they don’t sign the paperwork.

“As a sporting director, you can bring the deal to the table and the CEO signs off on the paperwork, the FD will have a look to make sure we can afford it. You are in a role to advise owners, you’ve got to advise them.”

Everton PSR situation still ongoing at Goodison Park

With the club likely to hear the outcome of their latest PSR hearing in the coming days, concern will begin to mount about the outcome at Goodison Park and what the next steps will be if they are punished severely again.

Whether the blame rests with Moshiri or not is beside the point. The latest PSR breach could land Everton yet another points deduction and therefore have a devastating effect on the club and their position in the Premier League.

Ultimately, Moshiri was the overseer of the club during that time. Everything that has happened, happened under his watch and so ultimately he is the one that must take the blame.

Everton
Farhad Moshiri will be keen to find new Everton owners.

With a takeover also ongoing at Goodison Park, as things stand, the Iranian may now be able to wipe his hands of Everton while those remaining are left to clean up his mess. No amount of explaining and differing roles can change what he has done to the club.
