Everton team news v Newcastle: Arnaut Danjuma ruled out as new doubt emerges

Everton will be without Arnaut Danjuma for their Premier League trip to Newcastle on 2 April, with Vitalii Mykolenko also a doubt, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported in its print edition [2 April, pg 61] that the duo will likely miss the trip to St James’ Park, with the home side also terrorised by their injury issues.

Danjuma remains out with ankle ligament damage having not featured for the Toffees since the end of January, while left-back Mykolenko is also a doubt with illness.

Sean Dyche has been able to adapt without Danjuma for much of the season with the Dutch international making just five Premier League starts, but Mykolenko has been a near-constant presence in the side and is arguably Everton’s only specialist left-back.

As a result, the Toffees will likely line up tonight against Newcastle in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Beto leading the line ahead of Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Jack Harrison, while Ben Godfrey will slot in to deputise for Mykolenko at left-back.

Everton team news hit by injuries in Premier League

A first win in 13 games is long overdue for Everton. Being without the attacking qualities of both Danjuma and Mykolenko at St James’ Park will limit their ability to test Newcastle out wide, but there’s hardly been a better time to face the Magpies in the past two seasons.

Newcastle’s injury list is extensive, with captain Jamaal Lascelles their latest absentee following their win over West Ham.

Former Toffees winger Anthony Gordon is suspended having been sent off in stoppage time of the same match, and Newcastle could well be there for the taking if Dyche’s side can exploit their makeshift defence.

Late goals have been Everton’s scourge of late, conceding four in injury time across their last four matches, but with Beto consistently finding the net in the absence of Danjuma, this could be the game in which the Toffees finally break their duck in 2024.

In other Everton news, the club is waiting to find out if they’ll receive further punishment in the Premier League this week.
