Paul Merson predicts result of Everton Premier League clash v Newcastle

Paul Merson has made his prediction ahead of Newcastle United hosting Everton in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

The Magpies earned a stunning three points against West Ham on Saturday with a comeback 4-3 win, while Everton saw a crucial point snatched away from them at Bournemouth due to an injury time own-goal from Seamus Coleman.

The Toffees are still battling relegation as a result and while Merson told Sportskeeda (1 April) that he believes they could still avoid the drop, he has predicted a “comfortable” win for the home team in Tuesday’s game.

“Newcastle came back from 3-1 down last week to secure a 4-3 victory,” he said.

“Everton seemed like they would nick a point against Bournemouth but they scored an own goal with only a minute left on the clock. Everton could be all right this season.

“Newcastle are going to be good to watch from now on. They’re not getting into the top four this season, and they’ll need their fans to stay happy. They’re going to bombard teams and play entertaining football, and we’ll see more Newcastle games like the one against West Ham.

“Newcastle will have a go in their last eight league games, and these matches should be enjoyable. I’m backing Newcastle to secure a comfortable victory this week. Newcastle 3-1 Everton.”

Sean Dyche must change things at Everton

Dyche has done a great job of managing the football club over the last 18 months, but he is really struggling on the pitch currently.

Everton are on a run of 12 games without a win in the Premier League and sit just three points above the drop zone with nine games remaining.

That suggests that he needs to change something. Whether that is with personnel, formation, approach or even all three, something must change if Everton are to turn their fortunes around.

Everton

Newcastle are a top side with great quality all over the pitch but they are severely weakened with injuries currently and such a high intensity game on Saturday could well have drained them emotionally.

The team have to be strong defensively and for once this season, clinical in front of goal and they could cause a real shock to improve their chances of survival.
