Everton: Amadou Onana ‘unpopular opinion’ shared as £50m+ transfer admission made

Dougie Critchley has admitted that he “doesn’t see the hype” around Everton star Amadou Onana.

The Sky Sports journalist tweeted on Tuesday (2 April) that it’s potentially an “unpopular opinion”, but that he doesn’t see the Belgian international as being worth more than £50million after he’s been linked with a move away from Goodison Park.

The 22-year-old has been praised for his performances since joining the Toffees from Lille in 2022, having drawn the attention of some of European football’s biggest clubs.

“Potentially an unpopular opinion, but I don’t really see the hype around Amadou Onana,” said Critchley. “Certainly with regards to potential £50million+ moves.”

How much is Amadou Onana worth for Everton?

It can sometimes be hard for people who don’t watch Everton regularly to see how much of a difference Onana makes to the side.

While he didn’t do anything overly flashy in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle United on Tuesday, he tied things together and helped move the Toffees up the field.

The midfielder recorded a 93 per cent pass accuracy, made one key pass and won two tackles, but his influence perhaps goes unnoticed by some people [Statman Dave].

The Belgian has been continuously linked with a move away from the Blues over the past few months, but they will be looking for considerably more than £50million to sanction a transfer.

Given that there isn’t an awful lot of value in Sean Dyche’s squad, he could be one of the players who moves on over the summer due to the club’s troubling financial situation.
