Everton: Andre Gomes sends ‘Important’ message after what he did last night
Andre Gomes has sent a message to Everton fans after helping the Toffees secure an important point against Newcastle United on Tuesday (2 April).
The 30-year-old midfielder has not started a Premier League match since the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in December but made a crucial impact against the Magpies before Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised from the penalty spot.
Gomes was only on the pitch for 30 minutes, replacing Abdoulaye Doucoure as Everton chased a vital point at St James’ Park, with many fans pushing for him to start against Burnley on Saturday 6 April.
Following the 1-1 draw, Gomes took to X on Tuesday (2 April), writing: “A well-deserved and important point in a difficult away game. Great support as always, Toffees.”
Will Sean Dyche choose Andre Gomes over Abdoulaye Doucoure in Everton v Burnley?
The Portuguese’s performances certainly will not have done his chances of starting against the Clarets any harm, with Doucoure failing to make the desired impact during the draw.
Everton’s main issue this season has been finding the net, with James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite continuing to stand strong in defence.
Only Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United have conceded fewer goals than the Toffees, yet Sean Dyche is still attempting to survive the threat of relegation for the third successive season.
With Calvert-Lewin scoring his first goal since October, it is clear to see why the Evertonians are struggling near the foot of the Premier League table, with Beto also not adding too much to the equation.
Although Gomes is unlikely to be the key change in Everton’s fortunes this season, his eye for goal could certainly help improve the current form and lead them to a first victory in 14 matches.
The midfielder has netted twice this season, despite only starting two matches due to injury, scoring in a 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur and the narrow 1-0 FA Cup victory against Crystal Palace.
