Everton: Doors ‘likely to be open’ for Martin Sherif at Goodison Park as German newspaper wowed
Everton striker Martin Sherif made a “fearsome impression” for the Toffees’ Under-18s at the Under-19s Champions Trophy – also known as the Easter Tournament – according to Rheinische Post.
The 17-year-old starred as the Toffees won the competition, beating Sydney FC on penalties in the final.
The report suggests Sherif and teammate Cody Ebere formed one of the “most dangerous scoring duos” at the tournament and suggested that “doors will open” for the youngster off the back of his performances in Germany.
“Martin Sherif made a fearsome impression on opposing defenders during the tournament, and not just because of his stature,” the Rheinische Post reported.
“Together with the equally burly Cody Ebere, Sherif formed one of the tournament’s most dangerous goalscoring duos.
“The doors are likely to be open for the Dutch youth international.”

Everton head coach Sean Dyche has previously bemoaned the quality of academy talent available to him – but Sherif’s displays will have done his prospects no harm.
The teenage centre-forward enjoyed a fruitful 2022/23, scoring 14 goals and supplying four assists in just 21 Under-18 Premier League appearances – and his positive tournament showing is evidence of a player who is building on his promise this term.
His impact had been more limited this season, featuring for just 672 minutes across all competitions and netting four times – but he has served a well-timed reminder of his qualities.
However, Sherif is not alone, with 18-year-old Ebere also catching the eye in Germany.
The versatile forward, capable of playing across the front line, has scored 11 goals and registered an assist in just nine Under-18 Premier League appearances so far this season.
If the pair can maintain the trajectory of their development, Dyche will be very pleased to have been proved wrong.
