Everton: ‘Incredible’ footage emerges of Blues fans at Newcastle United

A clip of travelling Everton fans in impressive voice during their side’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park has been shared by Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas on social media.

The Toffees were second-best for large periods of the game on Tyneside and went behind early on to Alexander Isak’s 15th-minute strike.

Despite the deficit and the general malaise surrounding the club, Thomas was impressed by the support of the travelling Toffees’ support, writing on X: “A brief clip, but just one example of how impressive the Everton away end was at Newcastle.

“Club in a third consecutive relegation fight, 1-0 down and heading towards a new club record winless streak in Premier League. Incredible support.”

Those fans were eventually given something to cheer about when Dominic Calvert-Lewin ended his goalless streak by netting the equaliser from the penalty spot after Ashley Young was hauled down by Paul Dummett.

Unwanted club record winless streak for Everton – but late fightback offers glimmer of hope

It is difficult to assess Everton’s overall performance at St James’ Park as anything other than poor, despite their late resurgence and equaliser.

However, the dogged nature of their defending after going 1-0 down – and a couple of huge saves from Jordan Pickford in particular – saw them cling on in a game where they spent most of their time on the ropes before being handed a lifeline when VAR correctly awarded them a penalty.

The draw failed to prevent Sean Dyche’s side from setting an unwanted club record of 13 Premier League games without a victory – but to claim a point away from home against superior opposition in a game in which they were thoroughly outplayed must be seen as a positive.

Any momentum generated from this draw must translate into stronger showings with immediate effect – the Toffees’ next game at Goodison Park against fellow strugglers Burnley cannot be classified as anything other than a must-win.

In other Everton news, an academy star has impressed in a youth tournament in Germany and will hope to have caught Dyche’s eye.
