Everton namechecked by Ex-FIFA official as new Liverpool VAR claim made
Everton have been namechecked by Keith Hackett after a VAR claim was made about their Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
The former FIFA official was tagged in a Reds fans’ post on Twitter, where he claimed there is a “big problem” in the Premier League after Mohamed Salah was denied a penalty against Brighton on 31 March, while Chelsea were awarded a relatively soft spot kick against Burnley on 30 March.
After a Toffees fan suggested in the comments that his side have been affected by poor decisions this season, a fellow Twitter user claimed they haven’t suffered a single incorrect VAR decision, with Hackett responding directly to that tweet by saying the Blues have “been on the wrong end of several decisions”.
Everton have received little help from VAR
The officiating overall in the Premier League this season has been pretty poor, but Everton have certainly had their fair share of bad decisions.
While there was contact from Lewis Dunk on Salah, there was absolutely not enough in it for the referee to award a penalty.
The Toffees, however, had a blatant shout for a spot kick turned down in their 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth on 30 March, where Dominic Calvert-Lewin was tripped inside the box.
But they did find themselves on the right end of a decision in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United on Tuesday (2 April) after Ashley Young was hauled to the ground in the area.
Calvert-Lewin stepped up to end his goal drought and earn what could prove to be an invaluable point for the Blues in their bid to fight off relegation this season.
In other Everton news, Jeff Stelling has mooted a £45million exit for one Toffees star.
