Everton short-term future ‘at great risk’ despite protracted 777 takeover
Journalist Daniel Storey believes the short-term future of Everton is “at great risk” right now despite 777 Partners trying to complete a takeover of the club.
The Toffees have had to take a loan of over £200m from the Miami-based investment firm to help with the day-to-day running costs of the club while they await approval from the Premier League for a full takeover to go through.
And writing in an article for iNews (3 April) journalist Storey admits that the future of the club looks bleak both with and without the takeover, with the list of interested parties that could help being incredibly short.
“The prospective takeover by 777 is no white knight,” he wrote. “There are deep worries about the availability of adequate funds and the source of the cashflow, hence the Premier League’s delays as they ask for further information.
“Their short-term future is at great risk without 777 and their long-term future may be the same with them. There is not a long list of interested parties – how could there be?”
Everton fans should be worried
It doesn’t feel like anyone really knows what is happening at Everton right now when it comes to the ownership of the club and the future.
Farhad Moshiri and Josh Wander have asked for time to get it done, but the Premier League continues to make everyone wait which just creates more and more uncertainty.
With the club needing loans to get from month to month successful and 777 Partners having their own cash flow issues, it sparks the debate of what could possibly change even if they’re given authorisation to complete the deal.
Staying in the Premier League should absolutely be the priority for the club because it would help so much financially, and would probably buy everyone a bit more time to turn things around.
But with that said, relegation is a very real possibility considering the second PSR charge could mean a second points deduction and fans have every right to be increasingly terrified about what comes next.
