Everton: Neville Southall reacts to 1-0 win v Burnley at Goodison Park

Neville Southall was seen in good spirits following Everton securing a 1-0 win against Burnley at Goodison Park, as shared by Christopher Beesley.

It was a long time coming but Everton finally secured a Premier League win after going 13 games without claiming three points.

Ironically, it was Burnley who the Toffees last beat in the league and it was the Clarets who fell to defeat away from home.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his second in as many games thanks to a slice of luck as he blocked Arjianet Muric’s kick upfield.

Despite being part of the goalkeeper’s union, Everton legend Southall was spotted visibly happy with the result for his former side.

Taking to X at full time, Beesley said: “At least the great Neville Southall was able to smile at the end of this one as Everton won at last.”

Can Everton kick on after the Burnley win?

It was far from a classic at Goodison Park but when you haven’t won since December, Sean Dyche will not care.

The Toffees were dominated where possession and passes are concerned as Burnley had 63% of the ball and made over double the number of passes with 403 [FotMob].

Despite this, the home side had 12 shots and although they only scored one, they accumulated 0.83 xG and arguably should have had a penalty.

Looking forward to the next run of fixtures doesn’t make for fun reading for Dyche and Co. Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are yet to play.

Throw in more winnable games against Nottingham Forest, Luton Town and Sheffield United and it might be a positive end to the campaign.

Ideally, the Toffees can win a fair number of their last seven games and go into next season with some confidence and hope of a better finish away from the relegation battle.
