Everton v Burnley: Amadou Onana injury update emerges

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana informed Sean Dyche of his injury as he felt soreness ahead of the game v Burnley on 6 April.

Ahead of the game, Dyche confirmed that the Belgium international had made it through training but he didn’t feel he was ready to play.

In his absence, James Garner and Andre Gomes started with Idrissa Gueye out as his wife gave birth to a child.

Dyche said, as quoted by Liverpool World: “Gana’s wife gave birth overnight so he has had a lot on his plate – congratulations to them. All is well but no sleep and that sort of thing.

“Amadou made it through training but then said he was too sore to continue.”

Onana and Gueye likely to return for Everton

The fact that Onana informed Dyche of his injury and opted not to play demonstrates a responsible approach towards managing his fitness.

This decision likely prevents exacerbating any potential injury, ensuring his availability for future fixtures.

Similarly, Gueye’s absence due to personal reasons, while understandable, is temporary, as he’ll soon return after the birth of his child.

Having both Onana and Gueye back for the next game strengthens Everton’s midfield options.

Furthermore, Dyche’s decision to start Garner and Gomes in Onana’s absence provides valuable game time for both players.

For Gomes especially, who has struggled with injuries and lacks match sharpness, this opportunity is crucial for regaining form and fitness.

The experience gained by Garner and Gomes as a pairing could also provide Dyche with additional midfield options going forward.
