Everton starting penalty news shared as points deduction confirmed

Everton initially had a starting point of five points deducted for admitting a second Profit and Sustainability breach, Ben Jacobs had said.

It was confirmed on Monday (8 April) that the Toffees had been docked a further two points having lost six for a separate breach already, though the club are apparently expected to appeal against the latest decision.

Broadcaster and journalist Jacobs took to X (8 April) to explain how Everton successfully argued mitigating factors reduced their fresh punishment by three points.

He wrote: “The starting penalty calculated was actually five points, but mitigating factors reduced it to two.

“Everton successfully argued: 1. They had already been penalised for overlapping years and double punishment was unfair. 2. The loss of sponsorship revenue from USM Services Limited. 3. The fact the club admitted its PSR breach at the first opportunity. 1. & 2. resulted in two points deducted from the five, with a further point taken off for 3.

“The Commission rejected the other grounds of mitigation and also concluded Everton’s cooperation was “not exceptional”.”

Everton partly successful in mitigating factors argument amid new PSR punishment

It has already been suggested that Everton are planning to appeal against their latest punishment administered on Monday but it sounds as though the situation could have been even worse

Jacobs notes how the starting point for admitting this second PSR breach was actually five but the club managed to make a partially successful argument and get it reduced to two.

Everton consequently drop to 16th in the Premier League table, just two points above 18th-placed Luton Town, albeit the Hatters have played a game more than Sean Dyche’s men.

This whole campaign has been overshadowed by PSR breaches, hearings, and points deductions, not to mention the ongoing takeover saga. Supporters are just desperate for an end to the utter chaos away from the pitch.

The focus needs to be on maintaining their Premier League status because right now it remains very much in jeopardy. Hopefully the club can keep their head above the line.
