Everton: Labour MP slams Premier League ‘vendetta’ amid points deduction news
Everton seemingly have a “vendetta” against them after news of their latest Premier League points deduction came to light, according to Labour MP Bill Esterson.
The Toffees were hit with a two-point deduction for admitting a second breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, though the club can appeal against the decision.
Everton were hit with a 10-point deduction in November for an initial breach, though their appeal against that was partially upheld and they were handed four back.
But it means the club have lost eight in total, with Esterson – the Labour MP for Sefton Central – hitting out at the latest news, namechecking Manchester City and Chelsea in his criticism.
Writing on X, he posted: “The latest points deduction from Everton by the Premier League is starting to look like a vendetta. Man City? Chelsea? Nothing.”
How will this points deduction affect Everton?
This additional deduction has pushed Dyche’s men back to 16th, just two points above Luton Town in the bottom three.
Right now there are arguably five teams scrapping it out to avoid ending the season in that dreaded 18th Premier League spot.
Following a 1-0 win over Burnley last time out the Toffees at least managed to end a 13-game winless streak, to give themselves a bit of breathing space in the relegation battle.
In the last two games, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has looked to get himself back on track with goals in back-to-back fixtures.
The thing that may worry Everton fans is that Luton are scrapping for wins, Nottingham Forest have some great individuals and Brentford are a good unit.
The redeeming factor will come from the fact form has been a struggle for all these sides throughout the campaign.
As it was earlier in the season Dyche managed to use the points deduction as motivation and went on a great run. Toffees’ fans can hope for another run to end the season and secure safety.
In other Everton news, King has shared a “terrible” Goodison Park verdict amid news of a points deduction.
