Everton: Luton Town supporters spokesperson fumes amid recent FFP news

Luton Town are the real victim of the Everton FFP fiasco, according to Kevin Harper, a spokesperson for the club’s Supporter’s Trust.

This comes after the i revealed on 10 April that seven clubs could potentially look to sue the Toffees for their financial mismanagement with a “legal storm” on the cards.

The eight-point total deduction is not being applied to the season where the breaches took place and this has led to clubs that did get relegated or on the verge of relegation being disgruntled.

Harper said: “First and foremost, let’s do everything that we can to get into a position whereby the outcome doesn’t affect us. We have to play Everton, so if we beat them we go above them. Then we’d have two games after that to try and pull away a little bit.

“The timing of it all has to improve. The accountancy period ends on the 30 June. How on earth were these things for this season only coming into place in January? That’s nearly seven months.

“Even if accounts aren’t made public, why are we delaying and delaying and delaying and now getting into a situation where a week after the season ends someone could be happy and someone could be distraught?”

Everton victims of unclear rules set out by the Premier League

The Luton supporter is right to be upset because his side has followed financial regulations and operated within their means, while other clubs like the Toffees and Nottingham Forest have breached Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Luton are in a precarious position where their survival in the Premier League could be compromised by penalties against other clubs, causing them to rely on external factors rather than their own efforts.

On the other hand, Everton’s situation is also complicated because the Premier League’s PSR rules lack clear guidelines and timely enforcement.

This ambiguity has led to a chaotic situation, with the Toffees facing multiple hearings and appeals.

The uncertainty around the rules and their application has made it difficult for them to navigate their compliance effectively.

The Premier League’s approach to the rules appears inconsistent, creating confusion and potentially disadvantaging all clubs involved.
