Everton: Sean Dyche shares ‘confident’ verdict as third point deduction mooted at Goodison Park
Everton manager Sean Dyche has admitted the Toffees are “very confident” they won’t be hit with a further point deduction before the end of the season.
The Blues were handed a 10-point penalty earlier this season for breaching profit and sustainability rules before that deduction was reduced to six points and then have recently been hit with a brand new two-point penalty.
While there is a fear around Goodison Park that another PSR breach could occur next season, Dyche has insisted that won’t happen in the final weeks of the campaign and admitted the club are currently considering an appeal.
As shared by Sky Sports News via X (11 April) he said: “It was unexpected in the sense that we thought it had been dealt with, it obviously wasn’t or it hasn’t been and obviously the window to possibly appeal, so the club will be looking into that.
“The last response was what’s done is done, the league table changes. We’re very, very confident and we’ve been told it won’t change again as regards to this season so therefore our focus is on the next round of games.”
Will Everton be hit with another point deduction for PSR breaches?
The feeling around Everton at this moment in time is one of uncertainty both off and on the field and that shows no sign of going anywhere anytime soon as issues continue to arise on the blue half of Merseyside.
While it will come as a relief to supporters that no further punishment is expected between now and the end of the season, the Toffees were previously confident that they hadn’t breached financial fair play rules whatsoever.
Whether or not Dyche’s confidence is misplaced remains to be seen, but it is clear from the Everton boss’ comments he is entirely focused on matters on the pitch rather than worrying about what is happening off of it.
Hopefully, the Toffees will do enough to avoid the drop this season, and then they can worry about any further deductions next year. If the club’s ownership is solved by then, that could help matters immensely.
