Kieran Maguire details ‘complicated’ issue to anger Everton fans as PSR saga to continue
Kieran Maguire has revealed that an unresolved issue could be set to further anger the Everton fans on the back of their latest two-point deduction.
Speaking on The Price of Football podcast on Thursday (11 April), the football finance expert said the commission decided that one issue – surrounding stadium interest payments – is “so complicated” that it wasn’t going to be able to reach a conclusion and has kicked that part of the case into next season.
Although he admitted that the issue is “quite straightforward” to him, he added that the decision could cause further bemusement amongst the fans of other clubs after the Toffees were handed a two-point deduction to go alongside their six-point penalty earlier this season.
“In respect of Everton, what the commission said is ‘first of all, we believe that you have breached the limit and we think it’s a minimum breach of £16.5million’,” said Maguire.
“There’s a separate issue, which the commission said is so complicated, but I think is quite straightforward.
“It said it’s ‘so complicated in our view, that we’re not going to reach a conclusion and we’re effectively going to kick part of the case into next season’, which is going to cause further anger from Evertonians and further bemusement from the fans of other clubs.”
Everton fans sick of PSR situation continuing to drag on
It’s getting a bit ridiculous now that the situation surrounding Everton is set to drag on into next season after the latest commission couldn’t bring the matter to a close.
While the debacle has been complicated for everyone to get their head around, it’s completely unfair to continue putting the Toffees fans through this heartache.
There should be some kind of time limit that a decision has to be made by to allow everyone, including the other Premier League clubs, to have some clarity on the matter.

There is no doubt that it has spoiled the season in a way, with the sides fighting down near the bottom not knowing where they stand over the past few months.
It appears that a similar situation could now arise again in the next campaign and that simply can’t be allowed to happen because it isn’t fair on the fans of those clubs involved.
