Everton: Amadou Onana told to leave Goodison Park in top six Premier League summer transfer
Amadou Onana will be showing a “distinct lack of ambition” if he doesn’t leave Everton this summer, according to Stan Collymore.
The former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker wrote in his Caught Offside column on 12 April that the Belgian “colossus” would improve if surrounded by better players as he tipped the midfielder to slot into any of the top six sides.
Onana has been heavily-linked to various clubs in the Premier League and across Europe this season and financial issues at Goodison Park may necessitate high-profile departures.
Collymore talked about “players that if they don’t move this summer will all be showing a distinct lack of ambition” as the summer transfer window approaches.
The pundit said: “Firstly, Amadou Onana. He could add steel and intellect to any top six side’s midfield. He’s still only 22, but is a colossus of a man who is only going to get better when surrounded by better players.”
Everton departure on the cards for Sean Dyche star?
A lack of ambition was something that was also thrown at Jordan Pickford last season when he ended questions over his immediate future with a new contract.
Evertonians might prefer to see it as commitment to the cause during hard times, which is something Onana has already shown in his two seasons on Merseyside, having been linked to a move away fairly constantly since his arrival from Lille.
However, with the potential for a third-straight profit and sustainability charge looming if the club don’t balance the books before 30 June in the wake of near-£90million in losses on the most recent accounts they may tell Onana that they need him to go if a suitable offer comes in.

And dismissive of playing for Everton that Collymore is in his assessment of the 22-year-old’s situation he probably is right about the improvement to his game that might result from joining another squad.
It is a measure of his ability that he has been an important player for Sean Dyche at times anyway, but having seen his dynamic display for Belgium at Wembley in the last international break there is a suspicion that the Toffees boss’ rigid system doesn’t get the best out of him.
