Everton: Brand new takeover concern at Goodison Park after auditors update

Dan Plumley has insisted there are new concerns surrounding the 777 Partners takeover bid at Everton after their latest accounts.

The Toffees’ accounts and audit report have referred to a material uncertainty over the club’s ability to trade as a going concern, which isn’t the same as administration.

The football finance expert did admit that it does mean there is uncertainty around who can fund the losses at Everton, which continue to rise.

“It’s not the same as administration and the two things don’t link to the other,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“It’s not a case of you would automatically then go into administration because of a line like that in the accounts, but it is a concern in the nature of the wording because it comes full circle with the takeover at the minute.

What that line is basically saying is the auditors are unsure of somebody to fund these losses in the future and that is probably no different to a number of professional football clubs that we could look at.

If the owner walks away or can’t fund the business, then there is a problem around that organisation as a going concern.

What we often see is the fact that it is signed off as a going concern because the owner is still prepared to foot those losses and is going to be there for the next year or so at least.

“It is a concern in relation to the takeover and that’s what it relates to, it’s saying, while the takeover is up in the air, there is uncertainty around who is funding the losses which we can see are considerable losses.”

Auditors unsure in brand new Everton takeover update

Nothing about this takeover has been straightforward.

With MSP Sports Capital now back in the mix with their loan needing to be repaid before 777 Partners can take over the club, everything is up in the air.

Nothing is simple with Everton, and the longer this continues, the more damage it will cause.
