Everton: Chris Sutton predicts result of ‘massive’ showdown v Chelsea for BBC Sport
Everton will extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to three matches when they face Chelsea on Monday 15 April, according to Chris Sutton.
The Toffees are looking to build on their first league win of 2024 over Burnley last time out and BBC Sport pundit Sutton believes Sean Dyche’s side will steal a point at Stamford Bridge, predicting it will be a 1-1 draw.
Chelsea come into Monday’s clash having not lost in all competitions since February, but Sutton still expects Mauricio Pochettinho’s side to “shoot themselves in the foot” and drop points against the Toffees.
Writing in his BBC Sport Premier League predictions (11 April) he said: “As usual with Chelsea, I don’t have a clue what to go for here.
“If you look back at their results then they are on a seven-game unbeaten run in the league but they have drawn four of those matches because they always seem to shoot themselves in the foot.
“Everton beat Mauricio Pochettino’s side at Goodison Park in December but only got their first league win of 2024 last week. Beating Burnley was massive for them, but they need to follow that up by getting something at Stamford Bridge.
“Chelsea are still a developing team so I am going to go with the Toffees to take a point.”
Everton to take a step away from relegation v Chelsea amid 777 Partners update
It isn’t often that a team are just as chaotic as Everton, but Chelsea are more than capable of giving the Toffees a run for their money this season. Despite the expensive nature of their squad, Pochettinho’s side hasn’t been able to buy consistency.
The Toffees claimed all three points in the reverse fixture earlier this season thanks to Lewis Dobbin’s late goal, but it hasn’t been easy for Dyche’s side since then as they have struggled for goals and been plunged back into the relegation fight.

Now that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has found his shooting boots once again and the winless run has been curtailed, the Toffees will be quietly confident they can take something back to Merseyside from Stamford Bridge.
A point would be a welcome step in the right direction for Dyche’s team in their battle against relegation and would be another marginal step towards Premier League safety. Hopefully, Everton will be able to match or better Sutton’s expectations.
