Everton set to lose multiple players as Goodison ‘mystery’ baffles Sky Sports pundit
David Seaman believes Everton could lose “quite a few” players this summer if they are relegated, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin mentioned specifically.
Speaking on his Seaman Says podcast (12 April), the former Arsenal goalkeeper admitted that it was a “mystery” that the Toffees were battling relegation again after narrowly avoiding the drop in the last two seasons.
And the former England international, who has appeared on Sky Sports as a pundit, believes clubs will want to take a closer look at striker Calvert-Lewin ahead of the summer window before deciding whether to make a move or not.
“I think what a lot of clubs will be looking at is that they will be wanting to see [Dominic Calvert-Lewin] have a longer run of games because he is injury-prone; there is no doubt about that,” he said.
“The other side of it, is with Everton, if they’re relegated you imagine there will be quite a few players leaving. If they get relegated, would they put the price down? If they stay up, they will want to try and keep their best.
“He has to prove more than what he is doing. The unexpected part of it is where Everton are. They are battling relegation season after season. That’s the mystery for me. It’s like, why has that not changed?”
Crazy summer transfer window incoming at Everton
Whether Everton are relegated or not this season, the summer transfer window is undoubtedly going to be a bit mental.
Relegation will no doubt see all the club’s top players leave the club with Barcelona and Bayern Munich interested in Amadou Onana and Manchester United wanting to sign Jarrad Branthwaite.
But Calvert-Lewin is an interesting case too because he is clearly a key player at Goodison Park and has a good reputation, but his form and injury record has been poor and his contract situation doesn’t leave Everton in a good spot.

He has now scored twice in two games to help the team push up the table despite eight points being deducted from their total this season, but that came after a run of 23 games without a goal in all competitions.
If anyone is going to spend cash on getting him out of the club then they’ll want guarantees it’s not wasted cash, but relegation will undoubtedly open the door for a lot of the squad to leave and a new era to begin.
