Everton: Even more points deductions on cards at Goodison Park amid Premier League argument
Everton could face even more points deductions after their latest argument with the Premier League as “more pain” is expected at Goodison Park, according to Joe Thomas.
The Liverpool Echo journalist detailed that there is a sense that the club is stuck in purgatory as he can see further arguments and punishments to come.
It had been reported that the club could face a third deduction as a result of the ongoing issues surrounding interest payments on loans for the stadium.
Thomas was speaking live on BBC Football Focus [13 April, 12:33] as he explained: “The biggest concern from Monday’s judgement was the fact that further regulatory issues were coming down the line.
“One of the big arguments that the Premier League and Everton are yet to have is about interest on loans that have helped fund the new stadium.
“If Everton were to lose that, it could lead to another points deduction and the picture would be far bleaker. They have more work to do to avoid a third breach and then perhaps another punishment further down the line.
“There’s a real sense that the club is trapped in regulatory purgatory. If anything, they can just see more pain, more arguments, and potentially more punishments down the line.”
More points deductions now on cards at Everton
Even further uncertainty is on the cards in the Premier League both on and off the pitch due to the constant threat of points deductions and legal battles after the Toffees and Forest learned of their most recent punishments.
It had been hoped that the most recent deduction would spell an end to Everton’s suffering, but the threat of a third deduction and possible further issues beyond have started to make it feel like the issues will never end.
Nottingham Forest decided they would appeal their four-point deduction, despite threats and the possibility that it could drag the final verdict beyond the end of the Premier League season in a dramatic twist to the relegation battle.

Everton are expected to do the same after their latest penalty, which could mean neither Everton nor Forest know their fate until after the final game of the season as there seems to be no end to the process and confusion.
