Everton: Tony Cascarino blasts latest PSR development at Goodison Park, ‘weird’

Tony Cascarino has slammed the Premier League for the situation surrounding Everton and their Profit and Sustainability breaches this season.

After being handed a further two-point deduction, the club confirmed they would be appealing against the decision, though the Toffees could be made to wait until 6 May to have their case heard. [i News]

If this were the case, Everton could be preparing for their penultimate game of the season against Sheffield United [11 May] as they learn their fate.

Speaking via talkSPORT on Saturday (13 April, 6:23am), Cascarino said: “It takes me back to my Marseille days, being in no man’s land, with the club having meetings with the players, not sure about what the decision is going to be.

“We didn’t even know if we were going down, or whether we were allowed to be promoted if we went up. It was all really weird. It got resolved before the end of the season because it had to.

“Somehow, the Premier League have to find a resolution to Nottingham Forest’s issues, Everton’s issues. It’s dragging on, and getting towards the end of the season, imagine the scenario.

“I don’t know how we’ve got to this position. Hopefully, this will be the season where a lot of change will happen. But this can’t happen on a regular basis. It must be done and dusted way before the season ends.”

Could Everton face relegation from the Premier League this season?

The uncertainty of points deductions at Goodison Park is, undoubtedly, casting a shadow over the club as Sean Dyche’s team continue to battle against the pull of the dropzone.

Just two points above Nottingham Forest and Luton Town, the Toffees must take victories away from their relegation rivals, as well as key matches against Brentford and Sheffield United.

The situation surrounding Everton’s PSR punishments has been of no help to their season, and the appeal process has only added to fans’ worry and anger at the Premier League.

Though it has emerged that Everton could face a third points deduction, this is likely to take effect at the beginning of next season, rather than cause any more issues this season, though this is also a huge worry.

The Premier League must find a more efficient way to finalise punishments, with clubs now waiting weeks and months to learn their fate. The current system just simply is not working.
