Everton: Premier League make ‘Ridiculous’ decision in new relegation verdict

Bryan King believes that Everton had no choice but to appeal the Premier League’s “ridiculous” decision to deduct two further points at Goodison Park.

The ex-Goodison Park scout doesn’t understand why points deductions are being handed out during the middle of the season.

Everton had a further two Premier League points taken from them last week, a decision which the club has appealed against (Everton Official Website, 8 April).

And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison Newsfeels that the Toffees were left with little choice but to appeal.

“I think they had to appeal the decision because two points at this stage of the season can be the difference between relegation and safety,” King said.

“This was all completely unnecessary anyway, why couldn’t the Premier League carry this process out after the season was over? And then if Everton needed to have points deducted, that could have been done at the beginning of next season.

“Taking points away mid-season is just ridiculous. As soon as they win a game, all of a sudden they have drawn a game because they have had two points taken from them, it is just ridiculous.”

Everton and Sean Dyche will be hopeful of a positive outcome from their appeal

It could be argued that Everton should just focus on winning matches and not worry about the stress of an appeals process which could come as a distraction.

However, after they were deducted ten points earlier this season, their appeal saw them handed four back, and Dyche will be hoping for a similar outcome this time around.

Every point matters at this stage of the season, and should the Toffees be given even one point back, that could prove to be the point which keeps them in the Premier League.
