Everton likelihood of successful points deduction appeal shared at Goodison

Dan Plumley has admitted it will be difficult for Everton to argue that one point of their latest deduction should be moved to next season.

It comes after Sky Sports reported on Monday (15 April) that the Toffees have asked the Premier League for one of their two-point deduction to be moved to the following campaign after lodging an appeal over the verdict.

The football finance expert believes the matter will be dealt with by the end of this season as the governing body will want the issue to be sorted before the final round of fixtures.

“I think they can ask, but the likelihood is that it will be difficult to get that argument to stick,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“The Premier League are very clear here and they did change the rules slightly a bit back to say that these cases will be dealt with within 12 months, and there will be a resolution by the end of the season at the very least.

“I think given that, it’s unlikely that you would see suspended points deductions or, in this case, a points deduction, one of those points moved to the next season.

“I get the feeling that the Premier League want this to be sorted out before the last day of the season so there are no points deductions pending going into that last round of fixtures.

“If there is to be a reduction or a change in that deduction for Everton, I don’t think it’s going to make a difference as to when that happens.

“It will be this season and it will be dealt with by the end of the season as soon as the Premier League get their way on that one.”

Could Everton be successful with a points deduction appeal?

It may be tricky for Everton to be successful in their appeal because the Premier League is unlikely to want too much of the case to carry on into next season.

It has already been revealed that one part of the charge against the Toffees – surrounding stadium interest payments – will be kicked into the following campaign due to the complexity of the issue.

That means there could be a further points deduction coming their way next season if the commission decides that the breach is worthy of another punishment.
