Sean Dyche branded ‘delusional’ as Everton boss torn to shreds for what he said about squad

Sean Dyche needs to take more accountability for his Everton tactics rather than blaming his players, according to Michael Ball.

On Monday night (15 April), the Toffees lost 6-0 defeat away to Chelsea in a disappointing performance after a win against Burnley last time out.

After the game, Dyche questioned the professionalism of his players and asked them to take responsibility for the result [Yahoo! News]. This didn’t go down well with Ball who wrote for the Liverpool Echo (17 April) and suggested that the manager be held accountable.

He said: “When managers are under pressure they get stubborn and delusional, he came out and didn’t take any accountability.

“He passed the buck to the players and that’s not going to help him in the dressing room. There have been question marks over the last few games over whether the players are playing for him – I don’t care if they are or not – they should be playing for themselves.

“Yes upstairs at the club has been a mess but he has to deal with that. He should deal with it through setting up the team in the correct manner and changing things when it’s not working.”

How can Everton bounce back v Nottingham Forest?

It is safe to say that being thrashed away from home and losing by six goals is far from ideal and isn’t a good look for Dyche and Co.

The upcoming clash against Forest could be the difference between Premier League and Championship football for next season.

Annoyingly, Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed out which saw Beto start against the Blues. He was caught offside twice, according to FotMob, if he had just held his line he could have put his side in the lead.

In a moment, unlike Jordan Pickford, he made an error which allowed Cole Palmer to complete his hat trick. This will be rectified and he will learn from this mistake which was symptomatic of the game in the end.

Everton

Everyone in the squad needs to pick up their performances as there were no true standout showings from the Toffees v Chelsea.

With the Goodison crowd behind the side and a telling-off from Dyche, Everton need to secure three points and Premier League safety.
