Everton give up, Amadou Onana will be sold amid ‘disastrous’ turn of events at Goodison
Everton have no choice but to sell Amadou Onana in the summer transfer window due to financial reasons, according to Sport.
The Spanish news outlet reported on 18 April that the Blues have “finally given in” and due to their “disastrous” financial situation, they have to sell big-name stars like Onana.
The 22-year-old has been one of the shining lights for the Toffees despite a difficult season for Sean Dyche’s side. His form has seen him repeatedly linked away from the club in recent months.
Sport has revealed that the midfielder “fits perfectly” into the type of player that Barcelona Sporting Director Deco wants to sign.
The report (18 April) says: “In the case of Onana, the range of teams interested in the 22-year-old Belgian midfielder is broader and, among others, includes FC Barcelona. Barça already explored the initial price of a transfer and even raised the option of including several players to lower Everton’s demands.”
Should Everton sell Amadou Onana?
Since signing from Lille in August 2022 for £33m [BBC], Onana has become one of the Toffees’ most important players.
There have been many signings made by Everton in recent years that have gone wrong but the Belgian has proved himself to be well worth it.
He has played 25 games this season after being ruled out with injury at different times. In that time he scored two Premier League goals [FotMob].

His defensive stats have been a positive of his game this season. According to Fbref, he has registered 2.88 tackles and 2.24 aerials won per 90 which ranks amongst some of the best in Europe.
It must be said that Onana is one of Everton’s best players and losing him would be very frustrating. He has been one of the few success stories in seasons gone by.
Although that might be the case if Barcelona were to come in with a bid of over £80m it would be hard to refuse. Especially with the FFP restrictions being placed upon the club.
