Ally McCoist shares Liverpool fan view on Everton relegation race in Premier League
Ally McCoist has claimed Liverpool fans would not want Everton to be relegated from the Premier League as it would diminish the rivalry between the clubs.
The Rangers legend explained that everybody loves rivalry between two teams, but it has to be there for the enjoyment to happen and while the Reds wouldn’t want to see Everton successful, they also wouldn’t want them to go down.
This comes after Graeme Souness insisted Liverpool fans would not want to see Everton get relegated this season ahead of the upcoming Merseyside derby.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [23 April, 08:42], McCoist shared: “I get it because it’s football rivalry. We all absolutely adore football rivalry, but it has to be there. If Everton went down, the rivalry would be diminished.
“The games against each other are what we all live for. Liverpool fans, I don’t think, would want Everton to be successful, but they love the games against them and they would miss the games against them.”
Everton fighting to survive ahead of Liverpool clash
A win against Nottingham Forest, despite all the controversy surrounding it, saw Sean Dyche’s side move five points clear of the relegation zone with a game in hand, putting them in a strong position to survive.
With the Merseyside derby set to take place on 24 April, any concerns from either set of fans about whether a result in Liverpool’s favour could send Everton down can now be dismissed, although they are not guaranteed safety yet.
Clashes against Brentford, Luton and Sheffield United following the Goodison Park game will hand them more winnable opportunities to pull further away, but defeats would also see them dragged back into the mix.

As McCoist claimed, Liverpool fans would probably rather the Toffees survived in the Premier League, but if that came at the expense of their own title challenge, their opinions may not be quite so positive.
