Everton: Matt Le Tissier reacts to Nottingham Forest controversy as Premier League hit back

Matt Le Tissier has hit back at the Premier League and insisted no one should be free from scrutiny after the fallout from the Everton win against Nottingham Forest.

The controversial pundit reacted on X after the Premier League’s response to an official club statement from Forest, who were less than pleased at some of the refereeing decisions at Goodison Park.

Everton were 2-0 winners in a game that could have huge ramifications at the bottom end of the table but saw three potential Forest penalties not given against them.

Quoting a post from the Premier League’s official communications account, Le Tissier said: “The pundits and now the Premier League stating that we shouldn’t question the integrity of match officials in the Premier League aren’t looking at the consequences of such a statement.”

“If you’re not allowed to question anyone you’re giving them free reign to get away with anything. No one should be free from scrutiny.”

Everton win overshadowed by Nottingham Forest VAR controversy

Everton went five points clear of the relegation zone with their 2-0 win over Forest at Goodison Park, securing only their second win in 16 attempts thanks to goals in each half from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil.

However, the Toffees’ performance and victory has become secondary to post-match discussions surrounding the application of refereeing and VAR during the game, with Forest posting a much-discussed reactionary statement almost immediately after full-time.

In the days since, the Reds have formally complained to the Premier League, and Le Tissier was less than happy with the response from the league and FA combined.

Everton will be happy to let the fallout of the game be dominated by talk of both Forest and VAR rather than anything to do with them, and Sean Dyche will know that the result – having three much-needed points on the board – is the only thing he and his squad need to take away from a game that has caused plenty of discussion.
