Everton team news v Liverpool as Sean Dyche shares new Dominic Calvert-Lewin injury update

Everton manager Sean Dyche has confirmed that Beto will miss the Toffees’ clash with Liverpool having picked up an injury in the win over Nottingham Forest.

The Blues welcome their Merseyside rivals to Goodison Park for the second derby clash of the Premier League season on Wednesday (24 April) as they look to make it back-to-back wins and take another step away from relegation.

While the Toffees will have to make do without Beto who is ruled out after a clash of heads with Morgan Gibbs-White, Dyche did admit that he remains “hopeful” Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be fit to play against the Reds.

Speaking in his press conference on Tuesday (23 April) he said: “He definitely won’t feature in these next couple of games but he will be back after that for the protocols and rightly so.

“Good news so far as he’s had all the checks needed and he’s fine, he just took a real knock but I thought the staff, all staff involved were terrific getting on there quickly to deal with things effectively on his behalf.

“We’re hopeful that he will be back for tomorrow, we’ll wait and see but we’re hopeful on that one.”

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin be fit to play for Everton in Merseyside derby clash v Liverpool?

Beto’s clash of heads with Gibbs-White at Goodison Park was nothing short of a sickening blow so it will come as no surprise to supporters, or Dyche for that matter, that the Portuguese striker will miss Wednesday’s clash.

While he hasn’t had the best of starts to life on Merseyside, the forward has shown in recent weeks that he could be an incredibly valuable asset in the Toffees’ push to avoid the drop so his absence will be a blow.

Similarly, Calvert-Lewin has been nowhere near his best so far this season, but the England international simply has to be fit for the meeting with Jurgen Klopp’s side if Everton want to come away with anything.

Hopefully, the striker and Dyche’s optimism surrounding his latest injury won’t be misplaced and Calvert-Lewin will be named in the starting XI on Wednesday. If not, the Toffees could already be facing an uphill battle.
