Danny Murphy predicts Everton v Liverpool clash amid Premier League title claim

Danny Murphy has told Liverpool they have got to win against Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park to keep their hopes of winning the Premier League title alive.

This came following Murphy’s assessment that Sean Dyche’s side are struggling with low confidence, although he expects the fans to be up for the game to ruin Liverpool’s title chances.

He went on to explain that, given their position in the league table and the players at their disposal, Jurgen Klopp’s side should be winning, but stopped short of saying it would be easy.

Jim White questioned whether the attitude at Goodison would be focused on ruining their rivals’ party as, speaking live on talkSPORT [24 April, 12:55], Murphy sighed: “Unfortunately, that will be the message.

“All of the Evertonians will be thinking let’s put their title race to bed, let us have something. Let us have a moment, because they haven’t had many.

“In a Merseyside derby with the Everton fans behind them, they’re capable, but eight times out of ten with what Liverpool are playing for and with the players they’ve got, they should be going there and getting a result.

“Everton’s confidence is low, they’ve been struggling. I saw them at Chelsea and they got battered. Liverpool are flying after the weekend and should be able to get a result, they’re fighting for the title, they’ve got to go there and win.”

Everton could ruin Liverpool title chances at Goodison Park

With Liverpool closely chasing Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, they know that even one slip will see them lose position to their rivals – something they cannot afford at this stage of the season.

Comments have reportedly been flying around the Liverpool training ground that Dyche’s team will be more up for the Merseyside derby than other games this season – already showing concern that a shock result could be on the cards.

It has to be said that if Everton take even one point out of the game, it would be a surprise result given their relative positions in the league table, but as they will be on a high after beating Nottingham Forest, you never know.

The atmosphere at Goodison Park should be bouncing ahead of the game – something that can make a telling difference in tight and tense games as this will be – as they know they have nothing to lose. An Everton win win could be season-defining for both clubs.
