Sean Dyche axes Ashley Young amid recent controversy – Everton confirmed XI v Liverpool

Sean Dyche has made two changes to the Everton side that beat Nottingham Forest last time out for the visit of Liverpool on Wednesday (24 April).

Everton picked up a big three points, albeit in controversial fashion, by beating Forest 2-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday (21 April).

They will be looking to build on that momentum in the Merseyside derby, and Dyche has decided to leave Ashley Young out after the Englishman’s controversial afternoon against Forest on Sunday, bringing in Ben Godfrey in place of the 38-year-old (Everton Official X, 24 April).

Meanwhile, Andre Gomes makes way for James Garner.

Everton and Sean Dyche have a golden opportunity against Liverpool at Goodison Park

After such a miserable campaign on and off the pitch, Everton have the opportunity to give their supporters something to smile about against Liverpool.

The Reds are fighting for the title, while the Toffees are simply looking to maintain Premier League status, and Jurgen Klopp’s side will be heavy favourites going into the clash.

However, while the two teams’ aspirations couldn’t be further apart, there is still a golden opportunity on offer for Dyche at Goodison Park.

Three points against the Reds would all but confirm Premier League safety while putting a big dent in their Merseyside rivals’ title chances.

While this wouldn’t make up for what has been a difficult campaign, it definitely wouldn’t hurt.

Beating Liverpool will by no means be easy, and Dyche would likely take a point if it was on offer before kick-off, but the Toffees must still do everything they can to ensure Klopp’s last Merseyside derby ends in misery.
