Wayne Rooney instantly reacts to Everton win v Liverpool, shares Anfield title verdict

Wayne Rooney has hailed Everton for their performance against Liverpool, who have all but seen their Premier League title bid ruined at the hands of their Merseyside rivals.

Goals by Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in each half secured the Blues their first derby-day win on home turf since December 2010.

It was an incredible display by Sean Dyche’s men, who are basically safe from the drop in the Premier League and Rooney couldn’t hide his delight at full-time.

“It’s brilliant to see. Everton, they’ve got a place in the Premier League next season and [probably stopped] Liverpool from winning the title so it can’t get any better. I thought they fully deserved the three points,” said Rooney live on Sky Sports Premier League on 24 April (10:01pm).

Are Everton safe from Premier League relegation?

Mathematically, no.

But looking at it logically, there’s no way the Blues should be going down at this point now unless the Premier League decide to slap them with yet another ridiculous points deduction.

Sheffield United can have their relegation confirmed this weekend while it might not be too long before Burnley also have their 2024/25 Championship spot solidified as well.

It comes down to Luton and Nottingham Forest, really.

However, Forest are now seven points behind Everton and Luton are eight points behind with four games left.

Luton need to win three of their remaining games and Forest need to win two and draw one, at a minimum, while hoping Everton slip up massively.

It’s just not happening, is it?
