Youssef Chermiti may have chance to dodge Everton exit after new Dominic Calvert-Lewin update

Everton took a big step away from the Premier League relegation zone with a workmanlike, and slightly controversial, fashion against Nottingham Forest.

The win at Goodison Park will have boosted the Toffees’ confidence heading into Wednesday (24 April) night’s Merseyside clash with Liverpool, but the three points didn’t come without a cost as Sean Dyche was handed a couple of new injury blows.

Beto was stretchered off after a sickening clash of heads with Morgan Gibbs-White while Dominic Calvert-Lewin hobbled off in the second half, leaving the Toffees down to their bare bones at the top end of the pitch.

Dyche has confirmed that Beto will miss Wednesday night’s clash and while there is optimism Calvert-Lewin will be fit, the Everton boss may have to turn to Youseff Chermiti to lead the line against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin start for Everton in showdown with Liverpool?

The 19-year-old has struggled to find consistent form on Merseyside since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in the summer, failing to score in any of his 15 Everton appearances in all competitions this season.

Chermiti’s lack of first-team action saw a number of clubs approach the Blues to take his services on loan in the January transfer window, but it is understood injury issues at Goodison Park stopped a move from being completed [The Athletic, 14 March].

However, there is a belief in Merseyside that the Portuguese forward will need first-team minutes next season and therefore a loan exit in the summer transfer window could well be on the cards.

But with Calvert-Lewin now a doubt and Beto ruled out, the opportunity may have arisen for the 19-year-old to show Dyche that he is capable of playing a regular role in the Premier League if he puts in a good performance against Liverpool.

It is unlikely there will be much money to be spent at Goodison Park this summer. Therefore, a strong display from Chermiti may see him force his way up Dyche’s pecking order and potentially away from the exit door.

Hopefully, the teenager will show his quality if he is to start against Liverpool on Wednesday. A Merseyside derby win would represent a massive step away from relegation for the Toffees this season.
