Paul Merson reacts to Everton 2-0 win v Liverpool at Goodison Park

Paul Merson has reacted to Everton claiming a sensational 2-0 win over Liverpool at Goodison Park on Wednesday 24 April.

The Toffees claimed a huge three points thanks to goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jarrad Branthwaite, leaving them all but safe from relegation with four games remaining of the season.

And reacting to the result immediately after the full-time whistle on his personal X account (24 April), Merson credited the Blues for their reaction after the 6-0 drubbing by Chelsea earlier this month.

“Great reaction from Everton after the game at Stamford Bridge,” he said. “Two wins and two clean sheets to all but keep them up.”

Everton can finally focus on the future

The biggest problem for the Toffees this season has been the uncertainty surrounding the future of the club in all aspects, both on and off the pitch.

The performances on the pitch had left people scratching their head because there were some poor results and relegation looked like a real possibility. But Dyche has got the team to win three of their last four games and they’re now essentially safe.

That now means that the full focus of the club can be on sorting the issues off the pitch, with the ownership situation needing to be sorted immediately.

It also means that Dyche can start to focus on his squad for next season with the likes of Branthwaite and Amadou Onana expected to leave the club, and others with situations that need to be sorted.

But now that the club know they’ll be playing in the Premier League next season, plans can start to be made and attention can move away from the immediate future.
