Sean Dyche shares Vitalii Mykolenko injury update after Everton Merseyside derby win v Liverpool
Everton manager Sean Dyche has confirmed Vitalii Mykolenko injured his ankle in the win over Liverpool but admits the Toffees don’t know how bad the injury is.
The Ukrainian international played the first half of the Blues’ impressive 2-0 Merseyside derby win on Wednesday (24 April), but was replaced by Ashley Young at halftime having received lengthy treatment following his injury.
While the injury left supporters and pundits grimacing, Dyche was quick to heap praise on the defender for soldiering on before revealing that the Toffees will know the extent of the damage on Thursday (25 April).
As quoted by Liverpool World on Thursday (25 April) he said: “We’ll know more tomorrow but he soldiered on the first half, bless him. It’s an ankle, by the way, but we won’t know more until tomorrow.”
Will Vitallii Mykolenko play for Everton against Brentford after injury in win over Liverpool?
It speaks volumes that Sky Sports decided not to show a replay of Mykolenko’s injury during Everton’s clash with Liverpool. That alone shows that it was not a small impact that the defender suffered on Wednesday.
While the defender has received criticism in the past for his performances, he has been a player reborn under Dyche this season. It would not be over the top to suggest that the Ukrainian has been one of the Toffees’ most consistent players.

Hopefully, he won’t be sidelined too long as he could be crucial between now and the end of the season. Ashley Young impressed from the bench and has shown he can be a more than able deputy if and when called upon.
The only saving grace for the Blues is the fact that they have all but secured their place in the Premier League next season with wins over the Reds and Nottingham Forest. It would have been worse had they lost him a month ago.
