Aurora Galli injury update emerges before Everton Women v Arsenal Women
BBC Sport journalist Emma Sanders shared Brian Sorensen’s update on the availability of Aurora Galli as Everton Women prepare to face Arsenal at Walton Hall Park on Sunday (28 April).
While the Toffees have little to play for this campaign, Sorensen’s side will be hoping to finish on a high with just three matches remaining, though a fresh injury concern has arisen.
Fresh off the back of a 2-1 victory against Brighton, Everton will be extremely depleted as they face an Arsenal side whose hopes of chasing down Manchester City and Chelsea in the race for the Women’s Super League title look increasingly slim given they are six points back of the former with only three games to play.
Sorensen spoke in his pre-match press conference, and Sanders summed up his injury list on X on Friday (26 April).
“Heather Payne & Rikke Madsen still out. Aurora Galli got knock vs Brighton and likely out for next 2 games,” she wrote.
“Emily Ramsey and Toni Duggan out . ‘Touch and go’ for Katrine Veje, but likely out. Karoline Olesen also a doubt. Hanna Bennison has been ill but hopeful of playing. Kathrine Kuhl ineligible against parent club (Arsenal).”
Injury woes continue for Brian Sorensen and Everton Women
Everton Women have been plagued all season by injuries, which will be a major concern ahead of the 2024/25 campaign as they look to improve upon a bottom-half finish this season.
While the league campaign has been rather disappointing, currently sitting three places above the relegation zone with 18 points from 19 games, their FA Cup performances offered some positivity.
The Toffees bypassed Aston Villa in a 3-0 win, even despite many injury worries in that game, before knocking out Nottingham Forest with a comfortable 7-1 thrashing.
That set up a quarter-final meeting with Chelsea, narrowly missing out on the next round to a Catarina Macario goal, much to the disappointment of the fans.
The club can certainly take positives from many of the performances, having gone toe-to-toe with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool throughout the season.
Sorensen’s new contract will also come as a huge boost for the team ahead of next season, with the Danish manager hoping to build something special at Walton Hall Park.
In other Everton news, a senior Toffees player may never feature for the club again and looks likely to leave in the summer.
