Brian Sorensen has shared an update on the availability of Everton Women pair Heather Payne and Eleanor Dale as the Toffees deal with an injury crisis in preparation to take on Aston Villa on Saturday (16 March).

While Everton are unlikely to be threatened by relegation, with Bristol City eight points behind on six points, they could have the chance to climb above the Villans with a win on Saturday.

However, an injury crisis seems to have hit the Women's team, who have lost both of their last two matches against Manchester City in the Women's Super League and Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference in quotes reported via the club's official X account on Friday (15 March), Sorensen said: "It's probably the worst it has ever been this weekend. We have potentially nine players out, with only two being in contention to play tomorrow.

"Rikke [Sevecke] is going to be out, Emily [Ramsey] out, Karen [Holmgaard] out, [Katrine] Veje out, Sara [Holmgaard] out, Karoline [Olesen] out, and Toni Duggan out. Heather [Payne] and Eleanor [Dale] are doubts."

Can Everton Women overcome their injury crisis against Aston Villa?

Injuries have been a common theme for both the men's and women's teams at Everton this season, with multiple key players facing periods on the sidelines.

Though the Toffees have lost nine of their 15 league matches so far, they were extremely close to getting a result at home to Man City and away to Chelsea, losing 2-1 and 1-0 across the two matches.

The recent matches, and injuries, have given Sorensen an opportunity to bring young and exciting prospects into the first team, with Isabella Hobson the latest to be included.

With seven matches of the Women's Super League remaining, Everton have little left to fight for, other than pride, which the manager will be keen to maintain.

In an unlikely turn of events, the final match of the season against Bristol City could become an extremely important fixture but the hope will be that Everton are out of sight of the bottom team before then.
