Martin Keown blasts ‘lazy journalism’ over Liverpool defeat v Everton in live talkSPORT rant
Martin Keown has blasted the “lazy journalism” that follows Arsenal after Liverpool were defeated 2-0 by Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday (24 April).
With Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool all involved in a tense Premier League title race, the latter were handed a huge blow to their hopes by Sean Dyche’s team.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are now three points adrift of the Gunners, and while they are just one point behind Man City, Pep Guardiola’s team currently have a game in hand.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Friday (26 April, 10:07am), Keown said: “I haven’t heard anyone say yet that Liverpool have bottled it [after their loss v Everton].
“If that was Arsenal, we’d be hearing it from the rafters – ‘Arsenal have bottled it again’. I don’t believe in that bottling stuff.
“I’ve said already that it’s just lazy journalism. I just don’t think they’ve got the know-how. Five of their front six has not really been there before.”
Everton playing huge roles at both ends of the Premier League table
The Toffees claimed a vital three points against their Merseyside rivals on Monday, having beaten them at Goodison Park for the first time in 14 years.
The win saw Dyche’s team move eight points clear of the dreaded dropzone, with the final relegation spot likely to be taken up by Luton Town or Nottingham Forest.
In addition to almost claiming safety from Premier League relegation, they have also played a significant role at the top of the table, handing Liverpool their second defeat in their last four league matches.

While the Reds are certainly not out of the race, especially considering the amount of talent at Anfield, you could see just how much the win meant to the Goodison Park crowd after the final whistle blew.
Some may claim that Liverpool have bottled the league title, but when coming up against Man City every season, who are closing in on their fourth consecutive league trophy, it is tough to say they have “bottled it”.
