Richard Keys reacts to Everton win v Brentford with new jibe

Richard Keys has suggested Everton “got away with one” in their 1-0 Premier League victory against Brentford which secured their survival at Goodison Park.

The infamous broadcaster hinted that the Toffees had not deserved their victory, despite the performance at Goodison Park more than earning all three points.

While Jordan Pickford, James Tarkowski and Idrissa Gueye were the standout players on the day, that doesn’t tell the full story as Brentford were limited to half-chances and long shots.

Speaking live on beIN SPORTS as shared on X [27 April], Keys insisted: “You got away with one today as well, I think.”

Richard Keys fires new dig at Everton after win v Brentford

How Keys can suggest Everton deserved anything other than all three points out of that game is baffling. A well-saved effort from Ivan Toney was the visitors’ best moment of the match, but other than that, they hardly threatened the goal.

It was a fantastically well-drilled defensive display from Sean Dyche’s side, but if they had more quality going forward, there could also have been more than just the one goal in their favour after some wasteful moments.

Perhaps it could be suggested that the Toffees were lucky to have taken all three points, with Gueye’s strike into the top corner following a scramble a tad fortunate, but they were good value for the points on the balance of the game.

Ultimately, aside from petty digs aimed by the likes of Keys, all that matters is that by taking all three points, Everton have secured their place in the Premier League as one of the only teams to have never been relegated for yet another season.
