BBC Sport shares £43m Jarrad Branthwaite transfer estimation at Everton
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite’s market value has been estimated at £43million by BBC Sport.
The Toffees will be forced to consider parting with their most valuable assets this summer due to their financial issues, and Branthwaite is arguably their most saleable player.
The 21-year-old Englishman was signed for just £1m from Carlisle United in 2020 and Everton will expect to make a significant profit if he leaves Goodison Park.
Jarrad Branthwaite has excelled for Everton
Branthwaite’s importance to Everton this season can hardly be understated.
He has broken into the first team to become an undisputed starter at the heart of defence alongside James Tarkowski at the age of just 21, having returned from a successful loan spell with Eredivisie outfit PSV last summer.
For all of Everton’s struggles, it is often overlooked that they boast the fourth-best defensive record in the Premier League – only the title-chasing trio of Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool have conceded fewer goals than their 48. In fact, they are the only four teams in the division to have let in fewer than 50 goals at this stage of the campaign.
However, despite the central defender’s importance to the side, he may benefit his club more by generating a sizable transfer fee this summer than he would be staying and helping them on the field, given the urgency of their financial issues.
The level of profit he would bring in would go some way towards balancing the books and keeping Everton on the Premier League’s good side, following two points deductions this term for breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The BBC’s estimate of £43m is nothing to be sniffed at, but you would expect that Everton will be hoping for far more than that for their star defender.
