Newcastle United ‘heavily involved’ in bid to sign Everton star Amadou Onana as transfer news emerges

Newcastle United have joined Arsenal and Bayern Munich in the race to sign Amadou Onana from Everton in the summer transfer window, according to FootballTransfers.

The Belgian has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park after a positive season under Sean Dyche.

The Toffees confirmed Premier League safety on Saturday (27 April) with a narrow 1-0 win over Brentford. They can now demand a higher sum for their midfield talent.

Jacque Talbot has reported for the outlet that Arsenal, Bayern and Newcastle are the clubs “most heavily involved” in trying to sign Onana.

The Magpies are confident of making a deal work having previously worked with the club in the transfer of Anthony Gordon.

Onana signed for Everton for £33million in 2022 from Lille[BBC] which was a hefty fee at the time but may result in a good profit.

In two years with the Toffees he has become well-liked across his 69 appearances under various managers at Goodison.

He has only managed to start 21 games this season and he has scored two in the Premier League [FotMob] which he would likely like to improve on.

Onana is already a regular starter for the Belgium national team and that plus league football will only see him get better and better.

Selling to a league rival may be a concern to Dyche and Co. especially given the excellent form that Gordon has found since leaving.

It must be said that Newcastle have plenty of money to spend given the wealth of their owners so Everton could drive up the price.

They will be aware of the financial situation of the Toffees so it may prove tough to refuse a good offer.
