Idrissa Gueye could leave Everton as wage issue emerges

Idrissa Gueye could leave Everton at the end of his contract this summer with his wages a “topic of discussion”, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Writing on their website (2 May), the news outlet reports that up to 15 players could leave Goodison Park this summer with their contract situations up in the air and one of those could be Senegal international Gueye.

The 34-year-old’s deal is set to expire and while the Toffees have the option to extend it by an extra 12 months, his wages are an issue and with PSR a big topic at the club unless fresh terms can be agreed he could leave.

However, the report also mentions that with Andre Gomes and Dele Alli also out of contract and Amadou Onana the subject of heavy interest, the books could be balanced in a way that he stays on the same terms for next season.

Everton have a big decision to make this summer

There are financial burdens at Goodison Park right now, and the club need to find a way to balance the books and help secure the future better than it looks currently.

That will start no doubt in the transfer market, with big decisions made on the playing staff when it comes to selling players and also who to sign and for how much.

A major sale is expected before June 30th to help with the current financial year, with Jarrad Branthwaite or Onana expected to fill that gap, but beyond that, they may have a bit of freedom.

With so many players out of contract, a bit of reshuffling can go a long way and there is nobody who helps Sean Dyche’s squad more currently than Gueye from that group of players.

If the club can find a way to keep him, then his experience, quality and ability all outweigh his wages for another year and it would be a ridiculous decision for him to be allowed to move on.

In other Everton news, Dyche must choose between two players for 2024/25 and let the other one leave Goodison Park.
