Everton takeover suspicions emerge as ‘dodgy’ 777 Partners suggestion made

Dan Bardell believes the Everton takeover bid by 777 Partners could worry fans given the financial concerns that have affected the club for years.

The Daily Mail reported (30 April) that the prospective new Toffees owners paid their latest loan to cover the club’s running costs four days late.

The newspaper also suggested that the club didn’t miss any payments to staff or to stadium contractors despite the delay from the investors.

This issue is cause for concern for Bardell who has suggested that owners like this could prove to be a curse as opposed to a blessing.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “I find it suspect with this going on for so long. Everton have had financial woes and a lot of uncertainty over the past few years.

“The last thing they need is suspect owners coming in and to me, this deal feels very suspect that it’s been dragged out for so long. If you’re making late payments, it raises questions around finances.

“The last thing I’d want for a great club like Everton is more uncertainty with dodgy owners coming in who perhaps don’t have the finances that we think.

“We’ve seen it before in the EFL more so than in the Premier League where something just smells fishy. If I was an Everton, this deal would concern me greatly.”

777 Partners’ Everton takeover faltering

The Toffees have been in desperate need of investment and new ownership for many years and it doesn’t look like being resolved any time soon.

777 Partners are helping to keep the club alive and away from administration but they are treading a fine line right now.

This season has seen enough points deductions fall on Sean Dyche’s side and they have worked through that to achieve Premier League survival.

To then be brandished with another for administration next season would be gutting for everyone associated with the club.

Making late payments to the club when wages need paying and there is a stadium being built, could cause problems moving forward if they continue.

There was a lack of a real explanation about the delay despite the knowledge of the payments being late.

Everton fans are struggling to see a light at the end of the tunnel with the ownership and it doesn’t look like it’s getting brighter any time soon.
