Everton, 777 Partners takeover twist emerges as ‘confidential information’ leaked via Bloomberg
US investment firm MSP Sports Capital are exploring the idea of buying Everton as 777 Partners’ takeover bid continues to stall, a source has told Bloomberg.
The American news website reported [9 May] that MSP have already lent money to fund the building of the new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock, and given the current situation surrounding the takeover bid, are looking at its options.
The source in question asked not to be identified after sharing “confidential information”, while MSP, Farhad Moshiri and 777 Partners refused to comment on the rumours.
“US investment firm MSP Sports Capital is exploring buying Everton FC as the current bid for the Premier League football club falters, according to a person familiar with the matter,” the report read.
“MSP, which has lent money to fund the Liverpool-based club’s new stadium, is looking at its options, given the existing offer by rival firm 777 Partners is now under threat, the person said, asking not to be identified discussing confidential information.”
New takeover twist emerges at Everton amid 777 Partners chaos
The takeover uncertainty caused by 777 Partners has been a nerve-wracking ordeal this season, with passionate fans being left in the dark over what is happening at Goodison Park.
Further points deductions, whole-fire sales, and administration have all been mooted due to the stalling takeover bid, while 777 Partners’ debts continue to rise after funding the building of the new stadium.
Moshiri has also been heavily criticised by the Everton fanbase throughout the campaign. The current majority shareholder is certainly not a favourite among the fans and will be booted out of the front door once a deal is reached with a new owner.
Fans at Goodison Park just want to know that the future of their club is safe, especially after securing their spot in the Premier League for next season due to their on-pitch performances.

Sean Dyche and his players have done incredibly well to block out the noise and navigate through a tricky campaign, which was made far more difficult by points deductions.
While it seems that 777 Partners could still finalise a deal, having met with Moshiri in London this week, many are now keen for a new party to come in as talks show no signs of any progression.
